Building confidence around death, dying and care at home

Amitayus provides practical and reflective education for people who want to better understand how to support someone approaching the end of life.

Training is open to members of the wider community, as well as people considering becoming an Amitayus volunteer carer.

Last Aid: Care for the Dying at Home

The next training will be held in 2027 at Byron Community College Mullumbimby.

Last Aid is a practical, experiential and contemplative weekend course exploring how people can support someone who chooses to approach the end of life at home.

The course creates space to develop practical understanding, reflect on death and dying and become more confident offering physical, emotional and compassionate support. The journey towards dying at home

  • Practical preparations and requirements

  • Duty of care

  • Grief and loss

  • Spiritual care

  • Care of the person after death

  • Supporting the dying person and those around them

An aspiration of the program is also to normalise death and dying and cultivate, both personally and in the community, understanding of how to engage with death and dying in a more open, supportive and compassionate way.
