You do not have to carry end-of-life care alone
Welcome to Amitayus since 1994 we have been providing free compassionate support for people who wish to remain at home, while also caring for the family members and carers beside them. Our trained volunteers offer presence, reassurance and practical support throughout Byron Shire and surrounding areas.
How support begins
Reaching out can feel like a big step. We keep the process simple, personal and guided by what feels right for you and your family.
STEP 1 - FIRST CONTACT
A conversation to understand what you need
Call or email Amitayus for a quiet, confidential conversation. We will listen, answer your questions and help you understand what support may be available.
STEP 2 - UNDERSTANDING YOUR SITUATION
We take the time to talk things through
Where appropriate, a member of the Amitayus team may speak with you in more detail about your circumstances, what matters to you and the kind of support you are seeking.
STEP 3 - SUPPORT SHAPED AROUND YOU
Compassionate support at your pace
When support is available and appropriate, Amitayus will work with you and your family to arrange care that respects your needs, preferences and home life.
Why AmitayusCompassionate support that honours your choices, your home and your pace.
Amitayus walks alongside people approaching the end of life, and the families and carers supporting them. Through calm presence, practical help and genuine human connection, we help make it possible for people to remain at home surrounded by what is familiar and meaningful.
Words from those we’ve supported
“Their genuine interest and availability meant that I could leave Peter at home...allowing me to catch up with tasks or just to have coffee with friends.... Amitayus has been a wonderful help to both of us at this most difficult time.”
— Margaret
“Thanks to the ‘angels’ from Amitayus, who visited and assisted in providing for Mark’s every desire. From massage, reading wonderful stories, meditation, hairdressing, errands, the list goes on! I was able to continue my work with the occasional respite, and I felt at ease knowing I was supported by the caring people from AHHS..”
